LIA: Did you always know you wanted to be a creative and a photographer?
SHAN: No, I actually spent most of my life playing basketball. So I’ve played basketball professionally and that was like, what I did in the world, and as an athlete you don’t get to split your time between different disciplines or different careers if you’re an athlete. Your sport is your life, so I spent most of my time playing basketball and then sometimes when I had off time, like my first year off from college I played around with cameras when I worked at Best Buy.

Did you always know you wanted to be a creative and a photographer?
ASHA: I didn’t really have a choice when it comes to being a creative person because both of my parents are creative people, so it just came more naturally for me to want to create. Now, being behind the camera, I never really was like “Oh, I wanna do photography.” My stepmom did photography for her job where she would do graphic design work and I started playing with her camera and I was like “oh this is interesting”.

Did you always know you wanted to be a creative and a photographer?
HANNAH: Yes, at a young age I knew I wanted to be a photographer, I believe it was 7th grade when I made the decision. After college I decided to be an artist and realized the consequences of both decisions. To be an artist, you have to be okay with not “making it.”

Did you always know you wanted to be a creative and a photographer?
KYLE: Growing up I was conditioned to focus on career paths that would bring in money and success, only in terms of money. So, even when I got to Morgan State University for college I ended up changing my major like five different times from business, to computer science to journalism. In all of those different pathways, I realized that I had to be somebody else in order to be successful. I came across the film program there and I just fell in love.
