Black Is Magazine is seeking submissions for our first print issue. The theme is Legacy and Continuity in Black Photographic Practice. Images submitted must be sized at 300dpi for printing. The deadline to submit is August 1, 2025.

To have your work considered for a feature on the site, please e-mail the following to contact@blackismag.com with your name and “Submission” in the subject line:

• 10-15 images from one project, sized at 72 DPI and 1000 px on the long side
• A project statement
• A brief biography or CV

We also welcome a link to a website that contains the requested information.  If sending a web link, please specify a particular project for consideration.

*Thank you to those that submitted. This open call is now closed.

We are seeking thoughtful, visually compelling work that reflects how Black photographers preserve memory, document culture, and shape lineage through the photographic image.

We are currently accepting for two features:

The Everyday Archive
Submit a photographic series (3–8 images) that meditates on the quiet power of everyday Black life. We’re interested in work that explores the poetics of routine, intimacy, and repetition as forms of cultural memory.

The First Time I Saw Myself in a Photo…
Share a brief written reflection (150–200 words) on the first moment you felt seen in a photograph. What did the image reveal to you about self, history, or representation?

Selected works will be featured in our first-ever print issue.

 Submit to: contact@blackismag.com

Open to Black photographers, image-makers, and artists at all stages of their practice.
